How to wear Sonam Kapoor Half Dhoti Saree Draping Tutorial

Not to forget that the Designer Anamika Khanna who inspired and brought the style become a stunner in the industry and out Bollywood diva just added the sparkle on how to carry this pretty outfit.

Basic Steps and what you will need for the drape

  • A Crop top or a midriff western pattern saree blouse to match the saree
  • Leggings or a tight fitted pants/jeans
  • A saree in solid one color and one border of 2-3 inches (not broader than this) and choose the fabric wisely which is flowy but not too sheer(avoid net saree)
  • Safety pins
  • Statement Jewelry of your choice.

Remember the saree drape by Anamika Khanna given in the post 4 Fancy Saree Drapes has listed some important details of the drape and also has mentioned that this drape doesn’t actually require a full-length saree but a shorter one, or say a sari piece of about 3 m or more. But in this tutorial guide, we have shown how you can use your regular saree length for this drape.

Put on your top wear and bottom wear to get started.

Step 1

Take the saree pallu end and measure 4 m approx. from here to the other side lengthwise. Shop where you reach 4 m and fold the other end inside creating a fold at 4 m.

Step 2

Use safety pins to secure the fold on the lengthwise fold borders, so that the fold does not open. This brings you a shorter saree then the usual one.

Step 3

Now start the pleating process from the fold, but instead of pleating lengthwise, pleat the saree width wise holding up the border in front.

Step 4

Once this is done, pin the pleats together and tuck the pleats in the waist of your bottom wear. Tuck them in a little towards the right side of the waist (not center) keeping the border to face front and the open loose fabric should come out on the left side.

Step 5

Pick your open fabric after the pleats and start tucking this like a skirt in your waistline around till the left backhand side.

Step 6

Now take the pallu end and bring it front from the backside and make shoulder pleats. Place this at the left shoulder across your bodice and pin this up there. Again pin the pleats below the shoulder from about 5-6 inches.

Step 7

Pull out the inner edge of the drape from the pinned pleats and neatly take it across your bodice and pin it at the back right side on the waistline.

Step 8

Now, the loose cowl fabric hanging behind at the back needs to be pleated and tucked in the waist. Hold the center of the loose cowl and from there pleat the left side fabric on the left side facing pleats, pin this and tuck it inside the back center waist a little towards the left side. Now pleat the right fabric on the right side facing the pleats and pin it up. Tuck in back waist little towards the right side.

Step 9

Now you are almost done with your look, so adjust the drape in front and you can pin up the lower border and front border at the knee level or above to maintain ease while walking and so the drape does not open up till the top while movement.

That’s your easy half dhoti saree drape and throw on your statement jewelry and rock the saree like Bollywood does it. Pretty easy, wasn’t it? DO watch the tutorial video for easier understanding.
