First, let’s look at How to choose the right dupatta to match the sari for the double draping techniques.
Draping a Sari along with a Complementary Dupatta
This is the easiest way to get a half-and-half look with one saree and dupatta. Remember you will need the same fabrics as the sari and dupatta. They can be indifferent and opposite colors too. Merging to different weaves like a plain and an ikat weave can work. Just like what we have done in the video above for a half-and-half saree.
Wear saree and dupatta in same Concepts
This simply means you can use the same fabrics, same work concepts, or some kind of weave or prints but in different patterns. Saree in Banarasi silk Jaal weave and dupatta in banarasi silk but in buttas draped together is an example. Styling a chikankari saree with a stoll in chikankari work with more details of gotta, zari, or mirror work to enhance the drape look.
Combining Prints of Saree & Dupatta in a Drape
This will need some style guides before you starting combining any prints. If you choose geometrically, remember both saree and dupatta prints should be in this. If you desire to mix floral prints then you can go for large and small prints in some concepts or color themes in both. Mix stripes with polkas or Indian Prints like Ajrakh, kalamkari with creative print combinations, for Instance Figure motifs.

The Easy way to make your sari into just the skirt part, add a dupatta to become your palla. We have done this also in Video in the 2nd style. Again you can mix plain and patterns or also choose two different patterns that harmonize well.
Sari and Dupatta Cowl Drape
Adding more twists and draping looks to your sari can be achieved by this draping style. The 3rd look in the video shows you how to achieve this draping style. You can mix prints, patterns, and also colors in these draping styles. Remember to have the same size as the edge border in this drape for sari and dupatta.
Saree with Shawl Dupatta Draping Style
Easy way to look classy especially for winters. Wear your shawl in embroidery or weave with your saree. It doesn’t need effort, just weave your regular open pallu saree drape and add the shawl on your right shoulder as a 2nd pallu look. That’s it and you are good to go. Choose to complement color for your shawls.
