We have a separate blog article for heavy bridal wear lehengas, dupatta draping, or wearing a dupatta on lehenga for brides.

4 Stylish Dupatta Draping Styles for Lehenga Choli

1) We love how heavy lehenga choli is so much in trend with embroidered dupattas these days. Wearing a designer choli, you don’t want your choli pattern draped by a dupatta. Then here’s how to wear a Dupatta for heavy choli designs.

Drape dupatta in a cowl drape from one side of the shoulder to the other side of the shoulder. Pleat up the drape of the dupatta in the front bodice section, and pin it together at the choli waist so those pleats don’t move. See the First Draping style in the Video to understand. Also, a net dupatta, or georgette, and soft fabric will be draped in this style easily. Thick borders and silk dupattas will not give a better look in this style.

2) The cape Dupatta Drape, is the easiest and most trending style for heavy choli designs and lehenga designs. If you don’t want to cover the front side view, then wear the back cape drape dupatta style.

Just drape the dupatta from the back neck to the shoulder and pin it on the front side section of the neckline. Also, hold a dupatta over your shoulder. Again If your dupatta is lightweight and flowy it will look best in a cape-style drape dupatta. This is good for freestyle dupatta

3) For a bridal lehenga choli or a traditional lehenga choli dupatta draping one can use an easy front pallu drape. Wear a short palla and drape from front shoulder to front side waist. And the dupatta corner needs to be pinned down here. Also, the rest of the dupatta at the back can be draped across to the other side of the waist and tucked in. This is a simple old traditional style of wearing the lehenga dupatta but the most trending heavy lehenga dupatta drape.

4) Double Dupatta draping styles with a traditional dupatta like patola, bandhani, and banarasi dupatta is in this style. Now pleat it up and drape it on the left side of the shoulder from the middle. Also, now take the other lehenga choli dupatta and drape it like the first cowl drape we did in the video. Where the corner should be pinned under the 2nd dupatta pleats. See the video to understand how two dupattas are draped on the choli section.

Next, drape the dupatta from front to back. Here, make pleats on the width section and then tuck in the back waistline neatly. Also, if your lehenga is solid, with no embroidery, and just basic prints all over, this drape will add more variation and pattern to it. Preferred on a Navratri lehenga, or a plain silk lehenga choli.

2 Sharara Suit Dupatta Draping for Indo-Western Styles

Draping dupatta on salwar suit for an Indo western look. As we are going to show 2 styles of indowestern dupatta draping on a sharara suit.

1) Drape soft silk or soft fabric dupatta like a jacket dupatta. Easy to make with DIY steps, create a dupatta into a jacket without cutting and stitching. Also, use pins to secure three points of a dupatta from lengthwise, 2 ends, and one center point all three in the middle with a safety pin.

Watch the video above to create a jacket drape from a dupatta with just pins. Now just wear this jacket drape over your sharara suits or also over a palazzo suit or a stylish Indo western style.

2) How to Drape a dupatta like an Indo western drape tunic. This style looks best with a short kameez over flared palazzo or sharara suit dupatta style. But not for Anarkali, or Punjabi dress. A short midriff or a bustier top with palazzo would look best with a side tunic dupatta drape style.

Wear your short-width stylish dupatta like a one-side tunic top drape. Also, wear a dupatta from the center, drape it on one shoulder, and draw across from both sides at the opposite side of the lower waistline or hip. And pin there together. Instantly you will have a new stylish tunic drape look with a dupatta for Indo-western salwar suit styles.
